Field notes / 001

Compare your MSP tools.

Before replacing a subscription, map the work it does. This open worksheet helps you compare real tasks, removable costs and the evidence a replacement needs to produce.

01. Start with the work.

For each task, name the tool you use, the platforms it must cover and a test that would prove a replacement works. Keep customer names, device identifiers and credentials out of your notes.

TaskCurrent toolPlatformsWhat must it prove?
Inventory & offline records
Remote support & consent
Software installation & removal
Updates & restarts
Scripts & automation
Alerts & notifications
Backup & recovery
Access & audit evidence

This is a general evaluation worksheet. It is not a statement that Milk supplies every workflow on every platform.

02. Count what you can actually remove.

Start with your current total monthly tool cost. Then separate new replacement costs from charges you will keep, including storage, required add-ons and retained tools. Use the same currency throughout and count each charge once.

Add your figures
Use monthly costs in the same currency. Keep retained charges separate from new replacement costs.

Record migration, training, parallel operation and contract-exit costs separately. A lower recurring total does not erase transition costs. Time saved by a technician is useful capacity, not automatically cash savings.

03. Agree on the test before the switch.

  • Choose a repeatable task your technicians perform today.
  • Include representative operating systems and device types.
  • Write down the expected result and the evidence you will collect.
  • Time hands-on work separately from waiting time.
  • Test failure handling, permissions and rollback as well as the successful path.
  • Retain existing coverage until the replacement has met your criteria.

Ask us to use this plan in a Milk walkthrough. We will identify the current coverage and any setup dependencies.

04. Take it to the conversation.

Your entries remain in this open page and are cleared when it is reloaded. Print the completed worksheet or save it as a PDF through your browser's print dialog.
